Asked to pay – Seniors Association must pay 200,000 euros

Date:

After a total of three self-reports, the Vorarlberger Seniorenbund must then pay income tax, sales tax, corporation tax and advertising tax. The opposition parties are again criticizing the “ÖVP system” and calling for its reshuffling.

Maybe ÖVP Finance Minister Magnus Brunner should explain to his family when which taxes have to be paid during one of his home visits in the Ländle. Because according to the Vorarlberg Economic Association, the Senior Association had also reported due to insufficient tax payment.

For years, neither tax on travel for senior citizens nor on advertising sales in their own newspaper was paid. The chairman has now received an additional payment of 200,000 euros.

In any case, the former director of the Vorarlberger Seniorenbund, Franz Himmer, does not want to know anything about misconduct: “No one has looked at it for 33 years, not even the tax authorities,” he told the “Standard”. The trips would also have been activities of the association of the same name and not the sub-organization of the ÖVP.

Parallels with the business association
NEOS boss Sabine Scheffknecht found parallels with the employers’ association: “It is clear that nobody in the ÖVP knows how to pay taxes correctly.” Statements like Himmer’s would not make things any better. SPÖ leader Gabi Sprickler-Falschlunger spoke of a “real indictment against the self-proclaimed economic party”. The “ÖVP system” must be terminated.
