Weapons for Ukraine? – “It’s easy to say, ‘We need peace'”

Date:

In the conversation with Katia Wagner, the Ukrainian ambassador becomes clear. Anyone who carelessly calls for peace negotiations should “go to Ukraine and see what Putin has done there”. That is why his country needs more weapons.

Ambassador Vasyl Khymynets continued: “We need longer-range artillery, tanks and aircraft.” The delivery of these weapons is not “charity aid”, but supports Ukraine in restoring European security order. For the ambassador it is clear: “We must stop Putin!”

If “Left Links and AfD’ler Demonstrate Together…
The foreign policy chief of the Kronen Zeitung, Kurt Seinitz, also confirms that Ukraine needs weapons quickly to avoid signs of fatigue. However, Ukraine’s desire for controversial phosphorus incendiary weapons and cluster munitions is a “no go”. While everyone wants peace, Seinitz views petitions calling for peace talks instead of arms deliveries as “selfish”. “It’s easy to say, ‘We need peace,'” he says. It is “not normal” for “Left-Left and AfD voters” to gather at peace demos.

Peace negotiations or arms deliveries?
The well-known professor of politics Heinz Gärtner sees it differently. “Peace negotiations are the most sensible thing to do,” he is sure. But now the war has reached a stage where “hatred and enmity” dominate and negotiations become increasingly difficult. Therefore, Gärtner believes that the war will continue, possibly as long as ten years. Ultimately, Ukraine could be permanently divided in a truce similar to Korea. One of the professor’s fears also causes one to sit up and remark, “I don’t rule out the use of nuclear weapons.”

Brigade General: Ukraine needs more weapons!
Brigadier Philipp Eder, on the other hand, does not assume a nuclear threat despite all the Russian threats. Rather, the threats are intended to discourage the United States from becoming even more involved in the war. The military strategist also has a strong opinion on the question of whether Ukraine should be provided with more weapons: “Yes! It is vital for Ukraine to get arms and ammunition.”

Should Austria support Ukraine more?
Researcher Ulf Steindl of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy would appreciate it if Austria would give Ukraine more support. However, he does not see much hope in it: “We are still discussing whether we can talk about our defense line at all”. In any case, Austria would have only limited means of subsistence.

We need help. And that as soon as possible
Steindl warns that the Russians can force a ceasefire to hold and recover the occupied territories until they are strong enough for new offensives. Hence the appeal of the Ukrainian ambassador to Europe: “It is possible that we can liberate our territories, but we need your help. And as soon as possible!”
