Gerald Fleischmann is considered one of the fathers of the Turquoise “Message Control”. The 49-year-old, who took charge of ÖVP communications in November last year, has now incorporated his experiences into a book with the logical title “Message Control”. The work received great interest in Austria. After less than two weeks, it tops the bestseller list in the non-fiction hardcover category of the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade.
Publisher Fleischmann announced this on Thursday. In the book, the 49-year-old provides insight into the practice of political communication. Sebastian Kurz’s book “Let’s Talk About Politics”, written with “Krone” star interviewer Conny Bischofberger, had already become a number one bestseller.
Fleischmann’s book has even left the hugely hyped Prince Harry memoir behind. Third on the bestseller list in this category is the guide “The Mountain Is You – How to Recognize and Overcome Self-Sabotage”.
Career with the ÖVP
Fleischmann, who initially had a taste of journalism, started his ÖVP career in 2003 in the communications department of the Lower Austrian state party. In the coalition of ÖVP and FPÖ, he was from 2017 Deputy Chief of Cabinet of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and head of the newly created Department for Strategic Communication Planning, from 2020 he was Chancellor for Media Policy. In the ÖVP chat affair he is listed as a suspect.
