Tactical skirmishes, hardened fronts and then reconciliation over the weekend. In the first real week of negotiations, things were already heating up between the ÖVP and the SPÖ. The “Krone” summarizes the week for you, explaining what both sides agree on, how the tactics have been used and when negotiations will continue.
While some officials left (or had already left) the St. Pöltner Landhaus at 2 p.m. on Friday for the weekend, the working day for the coalition negotiators at the ÖVP and SPÖ had just started. Individual assessors even had to reschedule appointments because the interviews lasted into the evenings. And that was not really clear before. Midway through the week, as black negotiators hear, there was a “rumble” during the initial negotiations. This was also heard in SPÖ circles in a similar way, but in the end it was not surprising for either side.
