Date:

Here’s where and when you can vote today and how the “Krone” will guide you through Election Day so you’re always up to date. In addition, editor-in-chief Hannes Mößlacher of the Carinthian Crown explains why it is meaningful and important to vote.

Early birds can vote from 07:00 in Klagenfurt and Villach, while the district capitals open their polling stations a little later. Note: Particularly in rural areas, some polling stations close at 12 noon, nationwide it closes at 4 pm at the latest. According to Gerhard Jesernig, head of the state’s election authority, there is no official list of all opening times.

Never before have so many voting passes been issued
428,929 Carinthians are eligible to vote. Of course, voting is also allowed with absentee ballots – 49,420 of which were issued this year, more than ever before. Compared to the last elections in 2018, this is almost double. However, this time, for the first time, absent ballots may no longer be handed in in “foreign” constituencies, but only in one’s own municipality.

“Crown” commentary: Who am I going to vote for today
Election posters are often controversial. They would spoil the area, be a waste of money and generally be a thorn in many people’s side. But no! You are none of that. Rather, posters are a visible proof of democracy, of the free play of forces, of our right to have a say in who will represent our country and shape the future in the years to come. And election posters should be a decision-making tool.

Just as we from the “Kärntner Krone” have made a sincere effort in recent weeks to provide help and orientation. For example, by being the only medium to ask 30 important questions to ALL parties and movements that stand for election. And have submitted the answers in hard copy and electronically, even in the original language. So that you, dear readers, can make your choice.

And because our young people are allowed to vote from the age of 16 and because they are our future, our house young people, in the person of colleague Jennifer Kapellari, also mainly appealed to young people with the new video format “Auf an Ratscha”. And if you don’t like voices, we recommend our cabaret format “Chaos-WG”. Maybe one or the other will vote after all. Like me; today as in any other election.

So that I can choose who should, can and may bear responsibility for the next five years. And with that I choose very clearly: Carinthia
