Above all, Austria’s top politicians gain Schallenberg’s trust

Date:

According to the new APA/OGM confidence index, Austria’s top politicians have better values than in December 2023. This includes Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (both ÖVP).

Also in the plus are Doris Bures (SPÖ), President of the National Council, Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens), Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) and Green Justice Minister Alma Zadić. Among the top candidates for the EU elections, Helmut Brandstätter (NEOS) is in the lead, although he ends up in negative territory. However, SPÖ leader Andreas Babler and Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig (ÖVP) registered the largest drop in confidence.

Here you can view the results in detail.

Four out of 32 are less trusted
In total, four of the 32 top politicians in this country are less trusted than in December 2023. In addition to Totschnig and Babler, these include NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger and FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl. National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) is still at the bottom, although his score has improved by five points.

Results surprising
This time, the EU’s top candidates were also asked for the first time. Brandstätter leads for ÖVP candidate Reinhold Lopatka, Andreas Schieder (SPÖ), Lena Schilling (Greens) and FPÖ candidate Harald Vilimsky.

The results are based on 967 online interviews with eligible voters. OGM boss Wolfgang Bachmayer said that the election campaign usually leads to polarization and that the results are therefore surprising. However, the two investigative committees could reduce confidence in top politics again.
