According to an initial estimate by Statistics Austria, inflation fell to 4.3 percent in February. This is the lowest value since December 2021. However, compared to January, the price level increased by 0.7 percent.
Food prices in particular contributed less to inflation in February than a year ago. Domestic energy prices would now also have a dampening effect on inflation, after rising sharply in February last year, Director General Tobias Thomas said in a Statistics Austria press release. Fuel prices, however, remained at last year’s levels, it was said.
According to a preliminary preliminary estimate, the harmonized inflation rate (HICP) for Austria, which was determined for comparisons with the eurozone, was 4.2 percent in February. Even according to this calculation, the price level rose by 0.7 percent compared to January.
