Salzburg’s state parliament will elect the new state government during its constituent session, which is currently underway. For the first time, the state government is elected secretly. After the elections, the members are sworn in. Prior to the session of the state parliament, there was an interdenominational celebration, during which protests against the new government were held on the sidelines.
After being sworn in, the government members officially take up their duties. Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) will be his deputy. The ÖVP has 12 members of parliament in the new state parliament, the FPÖ 10. The coalition thus has a majority of 22 of the 36 members of the state parliament. The SPÖ still has 7 representatives in the state parliament, the KPÖ Plus with 4 and the Greens with 3 deputies.
