Harald Vilimsky will once again be the leading Liberal candidate in the European Parliament elections. Party leader Herbert Kickl announced this on Sunday during a joint visit to the Oktoberfest in Hartberg (Styria). Confirmation from the party committees is now needed.
However, it is very unlikely that this will fail. The EU mandate should be excluded in the FPÖ. There is “no better top candidate for the European elections far and wide,” party leader Herbert Kickl said on Sunday. Vilimsky has also already confirmed that he wants to run again.

The politician (57) has been in the EU Parliament since 2014 and currently heads the three-member liberal delegation. Previously he was a member of the Austrian National Council and general secretary of the FPÖ. Vilimsky studied public relations at the University of Vienna and started working for the party as a press officer. “Harald Vilimsky, that is the rock on which we build our election campaign,” Kickl showered roses on Sunday to his favorite top candidate in Hartberg.
Criticism of too many EU powers
In the past, the EU politician had repeatedly criticized the European Union. In this way, they are taking over more and more powers and determining matters that should actually be left to the nation states, he said. He also spoke out in favor of a smaller EU Parliament, more referenda and stricter rules for immigration to Europe.
The EU parliamentary elections will take place in June 2024. Observers expect a plus for right-wing populist parties.
