A car with a horse trailer caught fire on the western highway near St. Valentin on Sunday. The great luck: the driver was able to escape from her car in time and uncouple the trailer, which did not contain any animals. The emergency lane and the first lane were closed due to firefighting work.
“We were alerted to a vehicle fire involving a car and a horse trailer,” reports Peter Spanyar, commander of the St. Valentin Volunteer Fire Department. A brave driver who had driven past and stopped tried to help with his portable fire extinguisher. But that was of little use: the fire in the car was already too intense.
Road partially closed
The driver of the burning car uncoupled the – fortunately empty – horse trailer and was unharmed. “We extinguished the fire and moved the car,” said Commander Spanyar.
The hard shoulder and the first lane of the western highway towards Salzburg were closed during the operation.
