The candidate of the La Libertad Avanza party has achieved an eleven-point lead over the current Peronist Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa.
He far-right Javier Mileifrom La Libertad Avanza, won this Sunday the Argentine presidential elections by gaining the upper hand over his rival, the Peronist candidate and Minister of Economy Sergio Massaby more than 11 percentage points difference, according to the 99.28 of the control.
Milei becomes president of Argentina from December 10after receiving 55.69% of the vote, compared to Massa’s 44.30%.
The already-elected president has assured that “today the end of Argentina’s decline begins”, and has warned that “there is no room for lukewarmness” or “half-measures” regarding the structural reforms he proposes for Argentina. In his first speech, Milei emphasized that “today we once again embrace the ideas of freedom,” he said. And with regard to the country’s founding fathers, he alluded to three principles: a government that “compliments to the letter” the commitments it has made, “private property” and “free trade”.
For his part, the official candidate, Sergio Massa, has acknowledged his defeat and called on Milei to “congratulate him and wish him good luck, because he is the president that the majority of Argentinians have elected for the next four years.”
Transition period
Argentina’s acting president Alberto Fernández will receive Milei in ashes today meeting which aims to initiate the transition process.
Fernández has indicated that he is “a man of democracy” and that “he values nothing more than the judgment of the people. I trust that tomorrow (next Monday) we can start working with Javier Milei to ensure an orderly transition,” he added. .
The stake has been from 76.37%, a figure higher than in the first round of elections, held on October 22. In Argentina, voting is mandatory, subject to exceptions provided for by law and which must in any case be justified by the voter. Failure to appear implies a fine and, in case of non-payment, exclusion from conducting proceedings before official organizations for a whole year.
