The prison cells in Austria are getting more and more crowded, but the offices in the prisons are becoming emptier – reports the “Krone”. Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister, regional chairman of the Lower Austrian workers’ association, identified a security risk and therefore sent a letter to Justice Minister Alma Zadić on Monday morning. What is written, where are the problems and which state is stepping aside.
In the “Felsen”, the infamous Stein prison in Krems, which houses many of Austria’s most famous criminals, 50 guards are currently missing. 303 officers there are currently responsible for about 700 inmates, including the “most serious cases” in domestic criminal history.
