State governor announces restructuring of department in charge to speed up disbursement of flood aid, while also criticizing “slow” administration.
The criticism of the disaster management approach by the victims continues unabated. There was talk of rejected applications and the payment of funds getting stuck. Recently, deputy regional director Astrid Eisenkopf promised more staff and faster processing.
Staff restructuring after crisis meeting
After another crisis meeting, State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil is now intervening in the responsible department 4 of the State Government Office in terms of organization and personnel to speed up the processing of financial aid. Markus Pammer, office manager of State Councilor Leonhard Schneemann, will be the person primarily responsible for coordinating the further management of flood relief, and employees from Doskozil’s office will also be involved.
“Those affected can be confident that if their applications are assessed positively, payments will now be made as quickly as possible,” announces the state governor, who does not shy away from criticizing his own government: “There are clear political guidelines in the form of government resolutions. We have promised people tangible help, have quickly documented the damage with teams on the ground and have also created the personnel capacity so that applications can be processed quickly.”
Own contact person in OberwarT
The internal organizational measures introduced must take this requirement into account. Each case will be examined individually and a separate contact point will be created for those affected in the Oberwart district. In total, there are approximately 1,500 applications.
Deprivation regulation if social criteria are met
“The processing has accelerated considerably in recent times. Last week, aid was promised for an amount of more than one million euros,” says Deputy Governor Eisenkopf. A hardship scheme should also make it possible to pay out money even in the case of a negative test, provided that certain social criteria apply.
