The Ombudsman’s office “analyzes information about a possible” misuse of the Pegasus software tools that facilitate the exercise of Fundamental rightsespecially those related to the right to privacy,” he explained.
The institution, acting as High Commissioner of the Cortes Generales for the defense of constitutional rights, “will collect the necessary data to initiate ex officio action to contribute to the proper functioning of the institution and respect for fundamental rights recognized in the Constitution,” he said.
The Ombudsman’s decision was announced while the Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanosand the Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrameet at the Palau de la Generalitat to try lower the voltage for this spy complaint.
According to Spanish government sources, it is “very important” to maintain the same willingness to dialogue that has been applied to the government so far since Sánchez became president.
Sources of the Generalitat, for their part, point out that Vilagrà will demand at the meeting that “clear explanation” on the matter and will insist that it is necessary to “take on responsibilities”.
The meeting between Bolaños and Vilagrà, according to the same sources, “does not replace” the conversation that Pere Aragonès hopes to have with Pedro Sánchez in the coming days.
