The Greens of Carinthia analyzed their sobering result in the state elections on Monday during a board meeting. Although they failed to re-run in the state parliament under top candidate Olga Voglauer, there were no personnel debates. On the contrary, the coming months had already been planned and discussed about how we would set up the structure in the future, Voglauer said after the meeting. The settlement of the costs of the election campaign was also discussed.
According to the provisional final result, the Greens gained 3.85 percent on Sunday, which probably means a small plus of 0.73 percentage points, but was not enough to enter the state parliament. They were flown out of there in 2018, not least because of internal disputes.
In the election of the National Council, the Greens in Carinthia won 9.51%
Although the party has presented itself more harmoniously recently, this time top candidate Voglauer fell far short of the 9.51 percent of the vote (that was almost 30,000) that voted green in the elections for the National Council.
“We have learned to be an extra-parliamentary opposition. We will continue to sharpen this role,” said Voglauer when asked how to invest in the coming years. Furthermore, the theme of climate protection will be prioritized in their own politics “and we will certainly work on how to better translate the topic”.
Another bitter pill for the Carinthian Greens: if they were reinstated in the state parliament, the newly formed group would have been entitled to a bonus of 500,000 euros. This is club financing that was not used in the legislature from 2013 to 2018.
Voglauer clarified that the amount transferred to a trustee would now also be repaid to the state. They rely on strength and energy, not “on euros”.
