The 67th World Conference on Women is currently taking place in New York. In her speech, Minister Susanne Raab emphasized the strengthening of women in technical professions and girls as victims of cybercrime.
In Austria, everything revolves around improving the situation of women for one day, the UN spends two weeks on this topic. After the general UN debate, the World Conference on Women is the most important event of the year. After Corona, the participants gathered again for the first time at the UN headquarters in New York. At the start of the conference, each country was asked to give a speech. Austria was also represented by Minister of Women’s Affairs Susanne Raab (ÖVP). The “Krone” followed the big event on site.
The minister had to be brief, speaking time was limited to five minutes. To make Austria’s position clear, Raab chose meaningful words. Unlike last year, when the war in Ukraine was the only topic, the focus was on gender equality.
The minister also considers it important to strengthen women in MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology). Role models are meant to be taken apart. The “LEA – Let’s Empower Austria” program, in which female managers visit schools, has now been running for a year. Finally, the politician emphasized the current danger of cybercrime. Girls often lack expertise.
After the speech, Raab opened the art exhibition on “Hedy Lamarr” at the Austrian Art Forum in New York.
