La France Insumisa (LFI) and the Socialist Party announced this morning that they had reached a programmatic agreement for the parliamentary elections. However, the PS sees no guarantees that LFI will give in to the proposals of its rivals and potential partners.

The Socialist Party French announced this Friday that “suspend” the talk with La France Insumisa (LFI) by Jean-Luc Mélenchon to agree an alliance for the parliamentary elections, attributing a “hegemonic logic” to the latter formation.
Mélenchon won almost 22 percent of the vote in the first round of the presidential election and is making no secret of his desire to become prime minister after the parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for June 12 and 19. To do this, it seeks a left-wing alliance for which LFI has already bilaterally polled the PS, Europa Ecología Los Verdes (EELV) and the French Communist Party (PCF).
Contacts with the socialists apparently went well – on Wednesday both sides said there were no “insurmountable” differences of opinion. In fact, this morning they announced that they had reached a programmatic agreement, although they warned that negotiations were continuing.
Well, a few hours after that announcement, the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, announced in an internal message the “suspension” of the dialogue until further notice, according to Franceinfo and BFM TV.
Fauré has urged Mélenchon to “break through all hegemonic logic and accept plurality” “Now, we have no warranty”he pointed out, which means that LFI would not give in to the proposals of its political rivals and potential partners.
Meanwhile, the national secretary of EELV, Julien Bayou, is optimistic about the course of the negotiations with LFI and even trusts an agreement “in the next few hours”, as he himself explained in an interview with France 2.
