“Our lives are in danger as the climate crisis escalates.” With these words, an activist from the Fridays For Future (FFF) group confronted Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) on Friday morning before his future speech at Wienerberg. FFF demands a climate protection law from the government. “If the ‘plan for the future’ doesn’t include a climate protection law, that’s it for the future,” the group said on Twitter.
According to activists, the chancellor does not take the future too seriously. The day before, the FFF group had already announced that they would receive the Chancellor for the Twin Towers to push again for an effective law to protect the climate. The demonstrators finally rallied on Friday with posters in front of the building.
One of the activists went one step further and personally confronted Nehammer with the demands shortly before the speech. However, the conversation proved ineffective and was carried away by security personnel.
Exactly one week ago, activists from Friday For Future and the Last Generation AT gathered in the streets of Vienna for the global climate strike. Now the group also wants to make its voice heard on this occasion.
