In the SPÖ, the cards are shuffled again – personnel changes in Burgenland are therefore not excluded. There is speculation…
There is still a long way to go for the “red unit” that Hans Peter Doskosil aspires to. He does not view his office as governor and a position in the federal party as contradictory. However, people are already thinking ahead at the regular tables.
Snowman as successor?
At the latest with a chancellor candidacy, the poker for Doskozil’s successor as head of state would be open. Deputy Leonhard Schneemann would have good cards. He is considered skillful, conscientious, hardworking. Bent over stacks of economic and financial documents, he meticulously analyzes the facts down to the smallest detail.
His counterpart Heinrich Dorner doesn’t have a bad hand either. In line with his departments such as infrastructure and transportation, he travels extensively and puts his foot down in his work. Dorner arranges everything close to the people. SPÖ club president Robert Hergovich should not be underestimated.
First Lady in Eisenstadt
He is a permanent member of Doskozil’s management team, is involved and fights with conviction for the interests of the employees. Astrid Eisenkopf, deputy governor of the state, officially assumes the role of political “First Lady”.
Not to be overlooked in all considerations is office manager Herbert Oschep. As a close confidant, he could be the governor’s trump card, the ace of hearts. Oscoop leaves nothing to chance. It even enjoys a good reputation in the wine industry dominated by the ÖVP. And Doskozil has already made the leap from office manager under former governor Hans Niessl to high politics.
Country is priority
Doskozil dismisses all speculation. Burgenland is at the top for him. “With this promise I applied for the post of governor, and my candidacy for the presidency of the SPÖ does not change that,” he emphasizes. If Doskozil is elected party leader, he will remain governor.
questions and obstacles
“All other questions only arise when I should actually be going as the top candidate in a National Council election.” Until then, only one possible path has been mapped out for the time being, which “still involves many questions and obstacles”.
