The Spanish government has “explicitly” condemned the bombing of Gernika for the first time. The PNV spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, Aitor Esteban, explained in Euskadi Irratia that this is a first step and stated that “after 85 years we have succeeded in getting the Spanish government to condemn the bombing of Gernika”.
Esteban has assured that the Spanish government is responding in this way to the request that the jeltzale formation has long claimed, and believes that “probably the images coming from Ukraine contributed to the creation of that condemnation statement now.”
However, Esteban has criticized that in this sense “no responsibility or request for forgiveness from the Franco government has been assumed.”
On the other hand, when asked about the Pegasus case, the PNV spokesperson assured that it is a very serious problem, pointing out that the Official Secrets Commission will not resolve the matter because the government “of Spain” is give some general explanation and, after denying things, he will say goodbye”.
