The working-class town of Itsasu is organizing this year’s celebration of Aberri Eguna in Ipararalde. Summoned by the bagira movement, hundreds of people participate in the two-day sessions organized under the slogan “Biharko Euskal Herria eraikitzek perst!” (willing to build the Euskal Herria of the future).
The Bagira movement seeks to “re-establish abertzalismo in Iparralde, reposition and strengthen it as a movement, overcome contemporary challenges and lay the foundations to carry it on for another 60 years”. This year marks 60 years since the first Aberri Eguna was held in Iparralde, precisely in Itsasu.
After the public breakfast at 9:30 a.m., a large ikurriña and zanpantzarres preceded the banner of the demonstration that started at 11:00 a.m. and ended around 12:15 p.m. with the reading of a manifesto. Prior to the mobilization, Anita Lopepe, a member of the Bagira platform, wanted to emphasize to the media that “we are here today thanks to those who laid the first stone 60 years ago” and expressed the hope that Abertzalismo would “get another 60” will fulfill. .
