The SPÖ has set the following internal course: the leading extraordinary federal party conference will take place on 3 June in Linz. There should be preliminary hearings for the membership inquiry, as confirmed by Federal Director Christian Deutsch. One of the three candidates for the party leadership, the mayor of Traiskirchner, Andreas Babler, is not involved in the decisions.
It must first be decided at how many hearings the three candidates for the party chairmanship can present themselves, Deutsch said before a meeting of the federal party presidency on Thursday. At least two agreements have recently been discussed.
Doskozil unsuccessfully campaigned for Babler’s invitation
However, one of the three remaining opponents cannot discuss this in the committees: Despite a corresponding request from Burgenland’s mayor, Hans Peter Doskozil, who is also a candidate for president, Andreas Babler was not invited to the presidium and board on Thursday.
Party conference in Linz because …
As has been the norm in recent times, the presidium was attended by prominent figures, and Doskozil was also present as a guest. The most important decision is the convening of the federal party conference. Deutsch justified the fact that this is being organized in the Linz Design Center on the one hand because it has been a long time since such an event was held in the state capital and on the other hand because of the good accessibility.
Rendi-Wagner makes “his own tour”
When asked why party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner, unlike her two male opponents, did not tour, Deutsch said she had “a wealth of appointments”. There is also a separate tour. Those are, of course, those dates on which Rendi-Wagner is officially present in her role as party and club president in the country.
Next Babler fans come out
Meanwhile, the booted Babler has gained more followers. After the Socialist Youth (SJ), the head of the Association of Socialist Students (VSStÖ), Hannah Czernohorszky, also spoke out in favor of him on Thursday. Economist Markus Marterbauer did the same, but not as a member of the Labor Chamber, but as a scientist and private person, as he explained.
Czernohorszky praised Babler in the “Standard” at the highest notes: “Someone is needed who can rebuild the SPÖ and reach and move the base again. The one we trust is Andi Babler.” Marterbauer saw the membership issue as an opportunity to put the social issue at the center of the political debate Rendi-Wagner and Doskozil also made interesting suggestions here, but Babler, who comes from the bottom up himself, is the most credible to him.
