Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) was again sworn in as governor of Carinthia on Tuesday. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was full of praise. Kaiser’s personality is a stable factor in domestic politics. That relations with Slovenia are now friendly is his (contributing) merit.
The 64-year-old Kaiser was sworn in as governor of Carinthia for the third time on Tuesday. For this he traveled to Vienna with his family, friends and political associates. Together with his deputy Gaby Schaunig, Kaiser presented the Federal President with a Carinthian Reindling.
Van der Bellen, in turn, praised the governor. To his credit, relations with Slovenia have calmed down and become friendly neighbours. He labeled the red-black government in Carinthia as a “demanding program”. He would have felt the responsibility of his duty even more than usual when he was sworn in.
Kaiser and the other six members of the state government were elected last week with 22 of the 36 votes in the state parliament. The SPÖ and ÖVP quickly agreed to continue the coalition. Kaiser has held the position since 2013. At the time, the Carinthian Freedom Party suffered losses. In 2018, the SPÖ managed to win extra votes. In the state elections on 5 March 2023, the party finally became the power with the most votes, ahead of the FPÖ.
