Gender Dispute – Raab to Rauch: “Pregnant Women, Not Humans”

Date:

The new regulation for the mother-child pass (hereinafter referred to as the parent-child pass) currently ensures this. In addition to substantive discussions, some people also object to the name change. And the fact that Health Minister Johannes Rauch spoke on Twitter about “pregnant people” instead of “mothers” is displeasing. ÖVP women’s minister Susanne Raab took the floor.

Health Minister Rauch opened a new chapter in the gender debate on Twitter on Friday. Because when a Twitter user criticized the data protection provisions of the parent-child passport, Rauch replied that “before birth, of course, only the pregnant person has access to the data”.

Raab: “We women can remain women”
This not only caused irritation on Twitter, but even calls for dismissal were posted. ÖVP Women’s Minister Susanne Raab spoke to the “Krone”: “I was a pregnant woman and now I am a mother. I think it is inappropriate to call pregnant women ‘pregnant persons’. We women can remain women!”

Recently, women’s organizations have criticized the fact that the sentence “Unauthorized persons are not allowed to view the mother-child passport without your permission” has been removed from the mother-child passport. In this way, people could access quite sensitive findings without the explicit consent of the mother. This was denied by the Ministry of Health.
