The Generalitat will appear as a popular charge in all legal proceedings related to the case of espionage against the independence movement, regardless of complaints filed by those affected by the “serious case of political espionage in the history of Spanish democracy” .
This has been agreed by Pere Aragonès’ executive at its weekly meeting in the Palau de la Generalitat, as announced by the government spokesman, Patrícia Plaja.
The Catalan government has thus authorized the appearance of the lawyers of the Generalitat, as a popular accusation, to take the appropriate legal steps in all proceedings pending before the prosecutor’s office and the courts related to this possible espionage.
Plaja recalled that the Catalan Statute provides that “the public powers of Catalonia must promote the full exercise of the freedoms and rights of citizenship, as well as the conditions for the freedom and equality of individuals and groups to be genuine and effective”, in addition information technologies “have no negative impact” on their rights.
In addition, he recalled that the government has already instructed the Legal Bureau to “coordinate all corresponding actions” before the relevant judicial authorities for the defense of the Generalitat and its servants.
