“My agenda is permanently open to speak positively”

Date:

Iñigo Urkullu has confirmed that both agendas are crossing to close a meeting after Sánchez’s reply to the last of the letters he sent him on April 14 requesting a meeting.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has assured that his agenda is “permanently open” to meet with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to “discuss issues that can have a positive impact on the Basque Country”.

Urkullu made these statements upon his arrival this Thursday at the plenary session of the Basque Parliament, to questions from journalists about the meeting he plans to hold with Sánchez to discuss, among other things, the upcoming transfers and the demand of the Basque president for an Atlantic macro-region.

The lehendakari has confirmed that both agendas are crossing to close a meeting after Sánchez’s reply to the last of the letters he sent him on April 14 requesting a meeting. “The president has responded that we would have to adjust agendas for a meeting,” he explained.

In his letter, Urkullu sums up the steps he has taken as chairman of the Atlantic Arc Commission, of the Pyrenees Working Community and member of the Euskadi-Navarra-Nueva Aquitaine Euregio, and asks that in his next responsibility as chairman of the European Union Commission submits to the European Council the proposal for the creation of the Atlantic macro-region.

He also expresses concern about France’s intention to postpone the deadlines for high-speed rail connections to 2042, instead of 2030 as planned.

On the other hand, the Minister of Public Administration, Olatz Garamendi, put forward yesterday that the permanent and bilateral commission between the Basque and Spanish governments that proposed the lehendakari to Sánchez in the last general policy debate is working and expected to meet soon although he has made it clear that “the most important thing is that it is filled with substance”.

While both governments have “shared agendas to meet”, the adviser clarified that there is still no date to set up the bilateral commission.
