So much money is flowing – New cabinet package for people living in poverty

Families – especially single parents – have been hit particularly hard by the price hikes of recent months. They are now being helped with an extensive package of government measures. For example, affected families who meet certain criteria receive 60 euros per child per month.

“Children are the part of our society that deserves the most protection – so we must do everything we can to ensure that they grow up carefree,” Family Affairs Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) said of the matter. The government now wants to make this possible with the following measures:

  • families with children, who receive unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance, social assistance or a compensatory benefitwill be paid 60 euros per child per month until the end of 2024 – automatically and without request.
  • Likewise will low-income single-parent families monthly 60 euros per child until the end of 2024 – paid automatically and without application. Condition: the withdrawal limit of EUR 2000 gross per month may not be exceeded.
  • The platform weiterlernen.at is increased and expanded. Ten million euros will be made available for this. The website gives socially disadvantaged children and young people free access to learning support from NGOs and student teachers.
  • The School starter package “School start ready” will be increased from 120 to 150 euros and will be available twice a year from now on. 15 million euros have been invested in this.
  • benefit claimants will receive an extra 60 euros per month until the end of 2023.

“With the new package of measures for families, we strengthen them in a targeted and accurate manner in these difficult times, in addition to the general family benefits. In this way we contribute to better helping families and single parents through the crisis in times of rising prices and high inflation,” says Raab confidently. She presented the package on Wednesday together with Minister of Social Affairs Johannes Rauch (Greens).
