The Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court has decided to open an investigation procedure after analyzing the complaint of the Dignity and Justice Association.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court has decided to archive the investigation procedure opened following a complaint by the victims’ organization Dignidad y Justicia for inclusion in the lists of EH Bildu of 44 candidates convicted for belonging to ETA.
After analyzing the complaint, the Public Prosecution Service ruled that the facts had been denounced do not constitute a crime And? cannot be seen an “assumption of incapacity“.
In addition, the Public Prosecution Service has warned that “it is up to the electoral commissions verification of the legality of candidacies submitted by political parties, federations, coalitions and groups intending to participate in the elections”.
The Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) had already announced that the 44 EH Bildu candidates for the 28 million elections who have served sentences for their relationship with ETA, seven of them with blood crimes, have served their disqualification sentences and therefore there would be no reason to be ineligible.
The composition of the EH Bildu lists has been the main topic of the election campaign in recent days. Today, Pedro Sánchez accused EH Bildu of having made a mistake in drawing up the lists. During the session of the Congress of Deputies, he affirmed that EH Bildu should ask his accusers for “a stronger and more resounding effort” for forgiveness and reconciliation.
Yesterday, the seven EH Bildu candidates convicted of blood crimes by the National Court resigned their positions if elected. After hearing the news, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, continued to press: “We will see if during the campaign we manage to make the remaining 37 disappear.” During yesterday’s plenary session in the Senate, the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, held a personal conversation in which Feijóo told Sánchez that he was “more generous with the executioners than with the victims” to which Sánchez replied: “If in Spain ETA is nothing, for you ETA is everything, it’s the only thing you have, but 12 years after its extinction, the Spaniards want a future that solves their problems”.
