On the occasion of the European political moment in the Carinthian state parliament, EU parliamentarian Lukas Mandl (VP) visited Carinthia. The ‘Krone’ spoke to him about the planned driving license scheme for seniors, EU President Ursula von der Leyen and child poverty.
“Kron”: EU plans for driving license regulations for seniors are causing a stir. As a parliamentarian you are very familiar with this. What is your position?
Lucas Mandl: It is simply a big mistake for the European Commission to intervene in the driving license system of the individual Member States. This only puts the elderly under general suspicion. And we must take a stand against this, because we need more freedom internally and more power externally. And internal freedom also means that there should be no centralization in this matter.
