Things move quickly in the SPÖ. First of all, it was down to the members who narrowly voted for Hans Peter Doskosil as the new number one in a poll. This was followed by the silent boss Pamela Rendi-Wagner, who on Tuesday morning, as expected, announced that she would no longer be a candidate at the party congress next week. Immediately afterwards, the party presidency and the board of directors in the parliamentary club SPÖ set the next course.
Whether peace will return to the SPÖ in the foreseeable future will not least be determined by how Doskozil and Traiskirchner Mayor Andreas Babler, who came out surprisingly strong in the survey, want to interact in the future. After the victory, Doskozil had claimed the lead with 33.7 percent, Babler was belligerent, arguing for a new poll or a member decision – then only as a duel with Doskozil.
Babeler wants “quick agreement”
Arriving at the parliamentary club on Tuesday morning, he said he wanted a “quick deal”. Precisely the lack of agreement that Rendi-Wagner had given as the reason for their withdrawal just before.
