The pro-European party Europe Now! (PSE) is the favourite, although it needs coalition partners to gain a majority in parliament. These elections should put an end to three years of political instability.
Nails 540,000 people with the right to vote will be called to the polls this Sunday elects the 81 deputies of the Parliament of Montenegro. This small country, which gained independence in 2006 from the state it formed with Serbia after the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia, has been a member of NATO since 2017 and candidate for membership of the European Union (EU), a target it aims to achieve before 2030 and which is supported by 76% of citizens.
The more of 1,200 polling stations opened today at 07:00 (05:00 GMT) for early parliamentary elections, in which the pro-European party Europe now! (PES) is the favourite. Voters can choose from fifteen parties and coalitions.
Polls show that the PES, founded a year ago and whose popularity is rising, would emerge victorious in the election, although it needs coalition partners to gain a majority in parliament. This formation is followed by Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
Elections must put an end to that three years of political instabilityleading to the fall of two governments since 2020, the last one last August.
