The election of Andreas Babler as SPÖ chairman was completely chaotic, but on Tuesday afternoon he was clearly elected club boss. Babler received 100 percent of the votes in the plenary of the Red National Council and Federal Council deputies — if they were counted correctly.
91 percent voted for SPÖ health spokesman Philip Kucher, who will pull the strings in everyday parliamentary life as executive club chairman. Kucher supported Hans Peter Doskozil in the presidency duel, his appointment as club boss is regarded as a concession to his camp.
High appreciation for Holzleitner and Mr
His deputies Eva-Maria Holzleitner and Julia Herr received 98 percent of the vote in the club. The two women have previously been mentioned for even higher positions, e.geide would have dropped for the real top positions for several reasons. Holzleitner is busy as a woman’s chair anyway.
With their voting behavior on Tuesday, the SPÖ committees probably want to send a signal of reconciliation and unity after months of internal party bickering. In the morning, the party executive allowed the new SPÖ leader to fill the federal management with faces unknown to the public. The dual leadership of Sandra Breiteneder and Klaus Seltenheim was unanimously confirmed.
Harmony at the sausage stand
Harmony was not only apparent from numerous statements to the outside world. The PR consultant and Doskozil supporter Rudolf Fuß shared a photo showing Babler, Kucher, Herr, Breiteneder and Seltenheim, among others, with the mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig in a good mood at the sausage stand at the parliament in Vienna (see tweet up here ).
