The FPÖ notified Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) for a safer sex campaign the ministry launched at the start of Pride Month in June. As mentioned, the focus of the campaign does not seem to be on the prevention of diseases, but on the promotion of sexual practices, according to the account of the facts.
FPÖ family spokeswoman Rosa Ecker considers this a violation of Article 2 of the law on pornography. Because the free cards, which are advertised, among other things, do not contain information about protection against sexually transmitted diseases. “Rather, the focus seems to be on ‘detabooing’ little-known sexual practices and promoting those practices,” Ecker writes in the ad.
It is suspected that the Ministry of Health “makes knowingly offensive content accessible to people under the age of 16 through targeted online and offline dissemination”. Particularly in the case of a campaign funded by taxpayers’ money, “a strict standard must be maintained regarding the protection of youth and young adults from disturbing information”.
“Horny for flower sex?”
“Horny for doggy?”, “Horny for scissors?”, “Horny for flower sex?”, “Fancy rimming?” or “Fancy licking?” and the answer “Yes. Safe!” is on the colorful posters, postcards and beer mats, which, according to the ministry, are mainly aimed at bars and clubs. The topics were also published on Facebook and Instagram. With the campaign, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport wants to create more awareness in dealing with sexually transmitted infectious diseases .
‘Infections and diseases often taboo’
“With our information campaign, we want to educate and sensitize people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity,” Rauch said at the start of the campaign. “Sexually transmitted diseases and diseases are often still a taboo today. In order to be able to enjoy sex carefree and safely, this must change,’ says the ministry’s website, where information about prevention can be found.
“Advertising Various Sexual Practices”
“This campaign is a scandal – under the guise of health protection and at taxpayer expense, the green health minister is basically doing nothing but advertising various sexual practices,” Ecker criticized. Countless parents have reported to her how their children reacted to this campaign, says Ecker: “We’re a long way from health protection, they’re just confused, including 10-year-olds who picked it up somewhere.”
