Defense Secretary Margarita Robles has confirmed Paz Esteban’s impeachment and announced the appointment of the new director of the National Intelligence Center.

For Robles, the fact that Paz’s successor is Esperanza Casteleiro, her cabinet director for two and a half years and now Secretary of State for Defence, represents the “recognition” of the Spanish government for the work of the Ministry of Defence, and she added admit that as a civil servant you have to be “close to the citizen”, but “not with big words, but with great deeds”.
When asked if she would consider resigning, the defense secretary assured that being a “gift” she is proud of, although “we all make mistakes”.
In that sense, Robles has assured that he has “complete confidence” in Pedro Sánchez, from whom “he has always found and will continue to find support.”
“I have full confidence in the President of the Government with whom I have worked for many years, whom I know, admire and respect, and no one can take that away from me,” Robles said, adding that in his work to ensure the safety of to improve the citizens will continue to find her as a minister.
The spokesman for the minister for her part, Elizabeth Rodriguez, has not yet brought forward the date for the announced meeting between Pedro Sánchez and the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, which could smooth out the rough edges between the parliamentary partners of the executive for espionage. “We are waiting to set up this meeting,” he said.
