The deputy general of Gipuzkoa has joined the Basque government’s complaint about the “intense juridification from which the Basque language suffers”.

Gipuzkoa’s deputy general, Eider Mendoza, has said she “completely disagrees” with the Constitutional Court’s ruling that overturned the requirement of the priority use of Basque in Basque town halls and said that this ruling indicates a clear “lack of respect for background” towards Basque and the people who speak it.

Mendoza issued a statement describing as “very serious the tendency taking place in the courts to challenge the decisions taken by the Basque institutions in recent years to promote the use of Basque in administration”.

For this reason, it has joined the Basque government’s complaint about the “intense juridification from which the Basque language suffers” and has expressed its “total support” for the municipal councils “who choose to promote and prioritize Basque in their internal work”.

He says it is also “a disrespect” for “Basque self-government and the trajectory of the revitalization of the Basque language in recent decades” and emphasizes that “it is the responsibility of the institutions to make effective decisions” . greeting.
