While the federal states complain about what they consider to be insufficient financial resources from the federal government, Health Minister Johannes Rauch is now stepping up pressure on the heads of state to implement more reforms. “If we don’t succeed, everything will remain as it is. And that is a dangerous threat,” he said in a background interview on Tuesday.
He is currently trying “like crazy” to convince all those involved – especially the federal states – to initiate structural changes. Without investment, the quality of healthcare would also suffer, Rauch warned. He called on countries to show understanding for reforms. “If that does not happen, it will be to the disadvantage of patients,” said the Minister of Health. Rauch also sees time pressure: “The story must be completed and decided this year.”
Smoke: Necessary to strengthen the solid area
In terms of content, the Minister of Health insisted on strengthening the established sector, on which an agreement in principle had already been reached with the federal states. There is a need for extra cash registers, especially in primary care, more supply during off-peak hours and expansion of specialized outpatient clinics in hospitals. Nursing staff, in turn, should be paid better.
The intention is to increase the existing health care fund to one billion euros per year to continue the measures implemented last year in the health care reform. In addition, the federal states should continue to be reimbursed for the costs arising from the abolition of the healthcare profession.
