Nehammer adds: “Don’t let the words forbid us”

Date:

The ÖVP naturally feels most strongly affected by the reprimand of the Federal President at the opening of the Bregenzer Festspiele, because it reacts most intensively to the warning words that Alexander Van der Bellen addressed to politicians of all stripes in connection with the “normal” debate. aimed. Now Chancellor Karl Nehammer has done it again, explaining in a Facebook video what is “normal” for him and who he doesn’t want to be banned from speaking to.

“It’s not normal anymore,” the ÖVP boss begins in his two-minute clip (see below). Everyone knows this saying or has said it before, the Chancellor begins to think about the use and meaning of the term and immediately indicates what is not “normal” for him: “These are the extremes and the radicals. Whether it are left-wing extremists, or right-wing extremists.’ People are extreme if they put their own opinion above that of others and disregard the rules and laws: “You have climate stickers or left-wing radicals, but also right-wing radicals or identitarians. They are Islamic hate preachers, just like vandals and other extremists.” said the chancellor.

“The extreme is the enemy of the normal”
The extreme is ‘the enemy of the normal’, Nehammer emphasises, adding: ‘What I also don’t find normal is to be criticized for standing up for the normal, for the many, for the majority. ‘ This could be interpreted as a sideways swipe at Van der Bellen, who spoke in Bregenz about the danger of ‘exclusive language’. But Nehammer sees it differently. He talks about freedom of expression, which is a great asset in Austria. “We don’t just let ourselves be banned by speaking to a few people,” the ÖVP leader clarifies.

He wants to make politics for many, for all those “who play by the rules”, who go to work, participate. “It’s okay if we make exceptions, but it’s not okay if exceptions become the rule,” Nehammer said.
