New fuel in the gender debate: A decree of the state government of Lower Austria of August 1 provides for a specific ban on gender-sensitive wording in the provincial service.
Pretty best enemies. In federal politics there is probably no duo better suited than the governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, and the green vice chancellor Werner Kogler. The latter accused the most powerful ÖVP politician – as reported – of “pre-fascist statements” because Mikl-Leitner wants to put “normal thinkers” at the center of her politics.
Almost every day both delivered a verbal exchange of blows – now there seems to be a new conversation and explosive material. The basis for this will be the Gender Decree, which will be valid from August 1 in the Lower Austrian state service and will probably cause heated discussions beforehand.
Stars & Co. as violations
The decree does not provide for a recommendation, but for concrete prohibitions, according to which the use of gender stars, etc., must in future be classified as a “crime of public service”.
For example, if employees in the state service use the gender star (“Lower Austrian”), the gender comma (“Lower Austrian”) or the Binnen-I (“Lower Austrians”) in e-mails, letters or official communications in the future, “), they may face disciplinary proceedings or warnings.
