The project for the construction of an underground car park under Calle Sangüesa and for the redevelopment of Plaza de la Cruz has received protests from some residents, forcing the city council to suspend it.
Pamplona Mayor Cristina Ibarrola has announced the “temporary” suspension of the construction project for an underground car park under Calle Sangüesa and the redevelopment of Plaza de la Cruz, pending the addition of the “neighborhood support and political needed to push it forward.
Bearing in mind that UPN rules without an absolute majority in the Pamplona City Council – it has 9 councillors, with the final support of 2 from the PP, against the clear opposition of Bildu (8), PSN (5) and Geroa Bai (2) – the concentrations and protests of some residents, which Ibarrola attributes to EH Bildu, have forced the municipality to make this “very thoughtful and responsible” decision.
As for the parking lot, it would be funded by a private neighborhood initiative, while the redevelopment portion of the Plaza de la Cruz would be paid for by the consistory.
