Vienna elections without beer? – Wlazny does not want to rule out leaving politics

Date:

The fact that he failed to enter parliament in the National Council elections makes beer party leader Dominik Wlazny think about leaving politics. He wants to think carefully about whether he wants to participate in the elections in Vienna in a year’s time. However, this has nothing to do with frustration, Wlazny emphasizes.

Wlazny is admittedly “surprised” by the appearance of his beer festival in Vienna, just like in the rest of the country. In his previous attempts across Austria – in the 2019 National Council elections and in the 2022 federal presidential elections – he managed to achieve significantly better results in the federal capital with his own power than in the rest of the country. Not this time. He can’t make sense of it: ‘It is the way it is.’

No need for ‘quick fixes’
Wlazny wants to leave it open for the time being whether he even wants to stand as a candidate for the elections in Vienna a year after this setback. However, this has nothing to do with personal disappointment: even after his success in the federal presidential elections – at the time 10.7 percent of Viennese wanted to see him as president – he was asked if he wanted to run in the elections for the National Council and was he was equally reluctant to do so once “Quick Shot” was finished. “We’ll think about it.”

Wlazny sees a lack of presence in the federal capital as a possible reason for the cooled love of the Viennese electorate for him: he “did not conduct an election campaign in Vienna” and deliberately spread his appearances in this election campaign throughout Austria. The fact that pollsters promised him an almost certain entry into the National Council just a few weeks ago and now nothing has come of it teaches him: “You can never assume anything.”

Anyway, continue with “Gaude”
Wlazny is convinced that in the local political committees where the Beer Party is already represented – such as the district councilors in Vienna, for example – people will ‘continue to have fun’. And an argument for staying in the political race is the support he received on Sunday evening at the election party: “I look at many faces who give the party a lot of courage.”

In any case, Wlazny is convinced that the lack of support was not due to lack of clarity about the content of his party. He still thinks his party program ‘menu’ is ‘very intelligent’. Especially in the areas of health care and education and his idea of a Ministry for the Future, he would be happy if the future government ‘copied’ that.
