The attacks continue: on Tuesday evening alone there were 42,000 hacker attacks on Carinthia. This time, however, the new protection mechanisms held up! An information line has been set up for concerned citizens.
For more than two weeks now, the Carinthian state administration has been digitally “attacked” by hackers. The IT systems of the State Audit Office, the school boards and all district boards, which are closely intertwined with the state, have also been badly affected.
42,000 attacks in one night
While efforts are being made to secure and reboot the systems, success is being held back by new attacks from the Internet. Gerd Kurath, the country’s crisis spokesperson: “There were 42,000 so-called DoS attacks on our IT on Tuesday evening alone, but this time the defenses held up.” As a result, the digital system was not overloaded as the hackers intended.
No further ransom demands have been received, according to Kurath. The $5 million in digital bitcoin currency that the criminals demand remains the same.
But no handwritten certificates
No one has reached normalcy yet, but little progress has been made. Starting next week, the upcoming payment of basic provisions will be possible again and the teachers can also breathe a sigh of relief. You no longer have to handwrite the school reports that are due soon, you can print them again.
Many gigabytes of data were stolen by the hackers, including sensitive data such as credit card details and passport details, which were distributed over the dark web. For those who are concerned or want to know more, there is a hotline: 050536-53003.
