The proceedings against ex-politician Grosz were discontinued due to insult to honor

Date:

In Bavaria, the proceedings against former BZÖ politician Gerald Grosz for insulting honor have now been discontinued. Grosz was accused of sending an email with “potentially defamatory content” on May 12, 2023.

However, further investigation is being conducted following the appearance at an Ash Wednesday event by the far-right AfD (Alternative for Germany, note). On February 22, Grosz described Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) as a “traitor”, “Corona autocrat” and “Södolf”. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has been called a “virological hoohor clown”.

State Chancellery: “Nazi Slogans”
The Bavarian Prime Minister then reported Grosz. A spokesman for the State Chancellery said at the time that there are limits even in the political debate. Any form of Nazi slogans and right-wing extremist slander is rejected. Grosz later responded with a counter-advice due to ‘false suspicion’. Söder’s ad was “ridiculous,” he said. It was an ‘attack on free political discourse through the judiciary’.

In another case, the proceedings in Bavaria against Grosz have now been discontinued. He was also accused of sending an email with “possibly defamatory content” on May 12, 2023. A necessary criminal complaint had not been filed, a spokesman for the Munich public prosecutor’s office said.

Gerald Grosz is a former member of the National Council and held positions in the FPÖ and BZÖ. Last year, he ran as an independent candidate in the federal presidential election and received 5.6 percent of the vote. This year he attracted attention with an application for membership of the SPÖ, which was rejected. He is also an entrepreneur and blogger.
