In his speech ahead of the Diada celebrations, the President of the Generalitat said that having the key to governability in Spain will “make possible what was not possible before” and added that “the time is now”.
Catalonia celebrates its national holiday this Monday, the DiadaLike every September 11 and the day before, the President of the Generalitat makes a televised speech, a message that this year has had three keys: amnesty, independence and having the key to governability in Spain.
“Catalonia holds the key to the governability of the state. But amnesty alone will not resolve the sovereignty conflict in the state. Catalonia wants to vote freely on independence. And as long as the Spanish state does not respond to this demand, it is democratic, the conflict will continue,” said Pere Aragonès.
The President of the Generalitat has asked to “immediately begin a new phase of negotiations focused solely and exclusively on the substance of the conflict” between the Government of Spain and the Government of Catalonia, in which they must agree “how we will respond to the will of the majority.” of the citizens of Catalonia to decide by voting what the political future of the country should be.
“Now is the moment,” he said, urging Catalans to unite to “use force together and force the state to resolve the conflict.”
Another focus of the institutional message was the defense of the Catalan language, “the pillar of the nation and an absolutely essential element for the social cohesion of the country.”
Aragonès has defended that the official status of Catalan in the European Parliament and its use “normally” in Congress would be “very important” steps towards the “full national recognition of Catalonia.”
