Joking with the citizens, casually throwing his jacket over his shoulder, making quick jokes: after the initiation scandal surrounding his garden, Ernst Nevrivy is back on the Donaustadt mission.
It was the first public appearance in the media of Donaustadt district leader Ernst Nevrivy (SPÖ) after his dubious allocation agreement for the exclusive swimming lake became known, the ‘Krone’ reported. On Thursday afternoon, the local politician stopped at Genochplatz with his district tour “My house, our Danube city”. Citizens should be able to chat and consult with their district leader in person. The “Krone” was also there and Nevrivy asked a few questions. Normally always talkative, but he was quite taciturn at first.
“I always talk to my citizens! “It’s all been said and clarified,” Nevrivy replied simply with a smile. But a manageable number of these citizens had come at the start of the tour – three residents of Donaustadt had gathered, let’s call it that. Once a month, Nevrivy can be found spending an afternoon in bars, outdoor dining areas and other meeting places in the individual parts of the neighborhood. He travels regularly to exchange ideas with citizens.
Why so quiet? Is there a muzzle from the town hall? Nevrivy’s response: ‘The district leader of Donaustadt will never be muzzled!’ Does he still have support from the district party? “Yes of course”. While the possible successors are already ready in the background.
No conversation with the state party secretary yet
In any case, the announced open conversation with state party secretary Barbara Novak has not yet taken place. So it will be interesting to see what remains of the “high moral standards” that the Vienna SPÖ has set for itself. Anyway, Nevrivy carried on as if nothing had happened – how much longer will he be able to do this?
