During his speech at the celebration of the ‘I Mandela Eguna’the Minister of Equality, Justice and Social Policy, Nerea Melgosaexplained that this is a report prepared by the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute of the University of Deusto, on behalf of the Directorate for Human Rights, Victims and Diversity of the Basque Government.
The ‘Mandela Eguna’ is a festival of Basque prisons that had to be celebrated on July 18, because the United Nations General Assembly designated July 18 as Nelson Mandela’s International Day. However, following the call for general elections, it was decided to postpone them until October 2, coinciding with the second anniversary of the transfer of management of the penitentiary centers.
During an event held this afternoon at the Tabakalera Center in Donostia/San Sebastián, the Arrats Association received the Francisco Javier Gómez Elósegui Award, which rewards people and/or entities distinguished by good practices in the penitentiary field.
