The online voting decision aid wahlkabine.at will be discontinued. Those responsible said on Monday that this decision had to be taken for financial reasons, as the emphasis was on political independence and the generation of commercial income was excluded.
“Until further notice” and therefore also during the 2024 National Council elections, wahlkabine.at will not be available. The platform was launched during the National Council elections in November 2002 and has since supported approximately 30 votes at federal and state levels, according to initiators Felix Stalder and Konrad Becker of “t0/Institute for New Cultural Technologies”. The latter was once responsible for the “Public Netbase” in the Vienna Museum Quarter.
They differed from international tools because they employed an editorial team and scientists. A crowdfunding campaign was recently started, but this has further increased the workload and made the financing base even more uncertain.
