The entrepreneur and former TV presenter Wolfram Pirchner becomes a member of the EU Parliament. He succeeds Simone Schmiedtbauer (ÖVP), who returned to Styria and is now an agricultural regional councilor there. Pirchner is from Tyrol and came sixth on the ÖVP list in the 2019 EU elections.
However, at that point he missed the entry; the Tyrolean business alliance member Barbara Thaler came first thanks to preferential votes. Pirchner previously worked as a presenter at ORF Tirol, Sat.1 and “Zeit im Bild”, among others. In December 2017, his candidacy for the state elections in Lower Austria was announced. Even then, he did not obtain the mandate he sought.

Now the entrepreneur from Innsbruck, who took part in the ORF dance show ‘Dancing Stars’ in 2012, has been given a political task. He will go to the EU Parliament “with great humility,” said Pirchner, who will be a full member of the Commission for Regional Development, an alternate member for Culture and Education, Employment and Social Affairs and the Committee on Budgetary Control.
EU delegation head Angelika Winzing thanked Schmiedbauer for the “great and trusting cooperation.” “Our loss is a gain for Styria. I look forward to welcoming Wolfram Pirchner to the European Parliament as a new member of our ÖVP delegation.” The European Parliament has 705 members, Austria is represented by 19 people. The ÖVP supplies seven.
