“Never done before” – No agreement on transit: Rome sues Austria

Date:

The dispute over Tyrolean anti-transit measures is going to a higher authority – after Italian politicians were recently extremely angry about it, Italy is now taking it to the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

The Italian Council of Ministers gave the “green light” for the announced lawsuit during a meeting on Monday morning. Transport Minister Matteo Salvini (Lega) recently announced that a corresponding dossier would be developed. The “direct objection” is something that “has never been done before” and a step that “the EU should have taken directly,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. In any case, all ministers in the Italian government have already accepted this call.
