Former FPÖ National Council member Christian Höbart was sentenced to twelve months in Wiener Neustadt on Thursday for violating official secrecy. According to the court, the conviction is not final.
In his role as a municipal councilor in Guntramsdorf (Mödling district), the general secretary of the HC Strache team was tasked with communicating a planned change in the zoning plan or development plan to a property owner.
Received 20,000 euros
The accusations were denied by Höbart on the first day of the trial, on October 11. The 48-year-old claims to have received 20,000 euros, but not for revealing state secrets, but for mediation activities.
Christian Höbart rarely missed potential setbacks. In 2014, when he was still a Liberal politician, he insulted asylum seekers as ‘cavemen’. A year later, he was attacked by the judiciary over inconsistencies in compiling the list of candidates for the municipal elections.
Three years ago he left the FPÖ in the wake of Heinz-Christian Strache and became general secretary of his hapless team. And Höbart has already managed to get 30 of the 33 municipal councilors in his hometown of Guntramsdorf to write an open letter calling for his withdrawal from the local parliament.
