National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka finds clear words in an interview on krone.tv: “Hamas is a terrorist organization. The terror that the country exerts on Israel cannot be put into perspective by the consequences of Israel’s defense. Israel’s right to self-defense is inviolable.” Sobotka criticizes the fact that Hamas had already held the Gaza Strip hostage prior to its terrorist campaign against Israel.
Iran also finds a strong critic in Sobotka: “The Iranians’ strategy is to unite all Arab countries under their auspices.” That is why Israel’s recent overtures to Saudi Arabia are not welcomed by Israel’s arch-enemy Iran.
“Actions involving taking down flags are unacceptable”
Against the backdrop of the war in Israel, Sobotka also fears that the actions will have drastic consequences for Western democracies. Also about Austria: “The actions in which Israeli flags were pulled down in Vienna and Linz this weekend are unacceptable. To prevent this, a large police presence will be needed here in the future.”
In the interview, the Chairman of the National Council also reported on the experiences of his recent trip to Ukraine: “In Kiev and Lviv I met an unbroken will to defend myself. Both among politicians and among the population as a whole.”
